Editorial board and governance
The journal maintains an editorial structure that separates scholarly editorial decisions from administrative and commercial functions.
Named appointments are being confirmed. Each role below will carry the holder’s full name, institutional affiliation and, where available, ORCID identifier once the appointment is formally made. The journal publishes no name it has not appointed.
Editorial structure and responsibilities
Six defined roles, with an optional advisory board
Editor-in-Chief
Provides academic leadership, protects editorial independence, establishes policy, oversees quality, and makes or supervises final publication decisions.
Associate and section editors
Manage manuscripts within defined subject areas, select reviewers, assess reports, and recommend decisions.
Editorial board
Provides subject expertise, strategic advice, reviewer recommendations, and support for journal development.
Managing or executive editor
Coordinates submissions, correspondence, production, schedules, and administrative operations.
Editorial office
Performs technical screening, communication, records management, and workflow support.
Advisory board (optional)
Provides strategic scientific and international advice without replacing the authority of the Editor-in-Chief.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are based on scholarly quality, originality, methodological rigour, relevance, ethical compliance, and contribution to the journal’s scope.
Decisions are not influenced by nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, political views, institutional affiliation, commercial interests, or the ability or willingness of authors to pay publication fees.
The owner or sponsor of the journal does not interfere with editorial decisions. The Editor-in-Chief has authority over scientific content, subject to documented journal governance.
Information about article charges is kept separate from editorial decision-making, so that no editor assessing a manuscript is aware of an author’s capacity to pay. See charges and waivers.

Conflicts of interest and recusal
Editors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from manuscripts where they have a personal, professional, financial, institutional or other relationship that could reasonably affect impartiality.
A conflict does not necessarily prevent publication or review, but it must be transparently disclosed and appropriately managed. Where the conflict concerns the handling of a specific manuscript, the manuscript is reassigned and the conflicted editor is given no further access to the review file.
Manuscripts submitted by guest editors or members of a special-issue organising team are handled independently of that team; see special issues.

Sought across the journal’s sixteen subject areas, including green chemistry and engineering, clean energy, carbon management, environmental and water technologies, circular economy and materials, and sustainability policy.

International representation is being sought alongside appropriate subject expertise, while avoiding tokenism.
Scholars who wish to be considered for the editorial board or as section editors should write to the editorial office with a curriculum vitae, a statement of subject expertise, and an ORCID identifier where available.
Reviewer panel
Reviewers are selected for subject expertise, independence, availability and absence of conflicts. The journal avoids repeatedly using the same reviewers and seeks appropriate geographical and institutional diversity.
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts objectively, constructively, confidentially and within the agreed deadline. The full list of what reviewers assess, and the conduct expected of them, is published on the peer-review page so that authors can see the standard their work is held to.
The panel is being built ahead of the first issue so that no manuscript waits on the search for a qualified assessor.
